This booklet outlines the
recommended updated competencies for ethicists working within Catholic health
care. Revised in 2018 by CHA’s Theologian and Ethicist Committee, the ethics
competencies take into account the multi-faceted role of ethics in today’s
health environment. Beyond traditional clinical consultation services, ethicists
advise on organizational decision making, moral formation programming, and
system-wide structures regarding ethics integration. The need for a trained
professional who can span regional and local level issues continues to expand.
We hope that this tool will help to advance this important role going
forward.
